FAVORITES
Opening January 15 at 7 PM
LOHAUS SOMINSKY is pleased to present the first solo exhibition by Sarah Zagefka at its Munich Gallery. The exhibition features new paintings and, for the first time, watercolors by the artist, as well as several older large-scale works on canvas.
In Favorites, Sarah Zagefka explores the unique relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit. Rather than depicting the individuals themselves, the artist makes visible the traces they leave behind in their surroundings. It is these traces—and the stories they tell—that interest her, revealing more about a person than a portrait ever could.
Working in an Old Master–like manner, the artist captures moods and inconspicuous details with fine brushstrokes, thereby rendering visible the interaction between space and its inhabitant. A particular focus lies on the studios of artists she knows personally, as well as on the many traces of the artistic process, which she powerfully captures in her paintings.
Sarah Zagefka, was born 1977 in Muenster/Germany. In 2014, she received her diploma as a master student of Karin Kneffel at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. She was granted with the Debutante Award of the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Cultural Affairs and got funding from the Masthoff Cultural Foundation. She had solo exhibitions and has participated in several group exhibitions. Her works featured in the gallery’s inaugural exhibition „Last Call“(2022) and were later presented in „Interieur – Exterieur“ alongside Karin Kneffel and Melanie Siegel.
